BIG SPRING — West Texas Centers is recognizing Red Ribbon Week, Oct. 23–31, by elevating local prevention efforts and sharing resources that encourage youth and families across its 23-county service area to make healthy, drug-free choices.
“Red Ribbon Week is an opportunity to remind our communities that prevention works — but only when people know where to turn,” said Rodney Jones, CEO of West Texas Centers. “We want families, schools, and young people to know there is help close to home. You do not have to wait until there is a crisis to reach out.”
West Texas Centers connects residents to a range of no-cost and low-cost behavioral health supports, including:
- School and Youth Prevention Services — age-appropriate education, peer support activities, and evidence-based prevention models delivered in school and community settings.
- Texas Targeted Opioid Response (TTOR) Resources — information on how to talk with loved ones about opioid misuse, education on naloxone, and treatment and recovery options available in West Texas.
- Behavioral Health Promotion Partnerships — collaborative prevention programs with schools, coalitions and local agencies aimed at reducing risk factors and building protective skills in youth.
- 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline Access — 24/7 free and confidential support for anyone in emotional distress; call or text 988 for immediate connection to trained counselors.
- Veterans Crisis Support — Veterans can call 988 and press 1 to reach the Veterans Crisis Line; local veteran behavioral health resources are available through West Texas Centers.
“We are committed to fostering safe, informed, and resilient communities,” Jones added. “If someone is worried about themselves, a teen in their home, or a friend at school, reaching out early can change the story before harm occurs.”
