The Big Spring Economic Development Corporation Board met on Tuesday night for their regularly scheduled meeting. The first item of business was approving minutes from the meetings on August 19, September 9, September 22 and October 7. Also on the agenda was the approving of August and September’s Financial and Investment Reports. The Board approved both the minutes and the reports.
The Board then adjourned into Executive Session to discuss the appointment of an Executive Director.
When the Board resumed the meeting, Scott Emerson made a motion to reopen the Executive Director job posting, with minimal qualifications being graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor’s degree in a business related field. The preferred education would be a Master’s Degree in Public or Business Administration or a Master’s Degree in Economic Development. Previous job experience may be substituted for academics. Emerson also stated that the qualifications should be supervisory experience and a successful track record of economic development accomplishments. Additionally, the successful candidate will have a valid driver’s license and a Certified Economic Developer Certificate is preferred. Finally, the candidate must be willing to relocate to Big Spring if hired. The Board voted unanimously to pass this motion.
Emerson then made a motion that the Board be given the applications and resumes from the previous Executive Director job posting in June 2025. The Board passed this motion. After some discussion among the Board members, it was decided that the Board would have a special meeting on November 4 to review the applications from the previous candidates. A motion was then made and approved to adjourn the meeting.
