West Texas VA Health Care System (WTVAHCS) began its annual flu shot campaign yesterday with dedicated flu shot clinics that will run through October, reaching Veterans across all six WTVAHCS locations.
Flu season is just around the corner, and health experts agree that getting vaccinated is the best defense against serious illness and complications from the flu. For Veterans, especially those with underlying health conditions, the flu shot is an important step toward staying healthy throughout the fall and winter months.
Veterans can walk into any WTVAHCS location during normal operating hours to receive their flu shot. However, the dedicated flu shot clinic provides a faster, more convenient way for Veterans to get protected.
“Our goal is to make it as easy as possible for Veterans to get their flu shot,” said Amy Grant, a registered nurse at WTVAHCS. “Prevention is always better than treatment, and just a few minutes today can help protect Veterans and their loved ones all season long.”
In addition to clinical staff encouraging prevention, many Veterans recognize the benefits of protecting themselves and their families by staying up to date on seasonal vaccines.
“I literally walked right in got my flu shot and was out with door, all within 15 minutes,” said Navy Veteran Edward Covington. “The VA couldn’t have made it any easier to get your flu vaccine – the process was excellent and efficient!”
The flu shot clinics will be held at each WTVAHCS location throughout the next several weeks. Veterans can check the full schedule on Facebook at @WestTexasVA or call 432-263-7361 for more information.
