On the 1st of August 2025 at approximately 2:00 am, Big Spring Police Department officers were dispatched to the intersection of NE 6th and North Goliad in reference to a
male laying in the roadway. Upon arrival officers identified the male laying in the roadway as Christopher Salazar 20 year old Hispanic/Male. Big Spring Fire Department
and Allegiance Ems arrived on scene and attempted life saving measures which were not successful.
Big Spring Police Department Criminal Investigations Division was notified to respond and assist with this investigation. Detectives immediately began interviewing individuals
and following up on leads. Through these investigations, Detectives were able to identify the shooting suspect as Kaleb Olivas, Hispanic/Male, 17 years of age.
Detectives then obtained an arrest warrant for Olivas.
On Tuesday, September 16 th , 2025 at approximately 3:00 p.m. Big Spring Police Department Detectives with the assistance of Texas Department of Public Safety,
Howard County Sheriff’s Officer and Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested Olivas without incident in the 1000 Block of N. Main.
This is an ongoing investigation and there is no further information available at this time.
