After Big Springs’ Cross Country performance at the Plains Cross Country Invitational last weekend, the Cross Country Coaches Association of Texas (CCCAT) ranked the team 4th place overall in 4-A. The CCCAT ranked Canyon, Tx first, La Faria, Tx second, and Salado, Tx third.
In the Plains Invitational, the Big Spring varsity boys were led by a dominant performance from Jacob Marquez, who captured 1st place overall, pacing the Steers to the team championship. He was followed closely by Ines “CJ” Gonzales (6th), Eddyson Quezada (7th), Josh Calixto (9th), Thomas Sooter (14th), Loc Ramirez (23rd), and Nathan Garza (25th).
The junior varsity boys narrowly missed out on the team title, finishing just two points behind Andrews. Bishop Blanco (3rd) and Santiago Gutierrez (6th) led the way, with strong support from Isaac Leos (18th), Isiah Gonzales (20th), Eli Crane (21st), Sabastain Salazar (25th), Logan Shryack (28th), Jaylen Cooper (46th), and Syeed Leos (63rd).
Illness and injuries kept the varsity girls from fielding a full team, but Bergan Pinkley (38th) and Jade Valenzula (100th) still turned in solid efforts. The junior varsity girls saw Danica Alvarado earn an impressive 2nd-place finish, followed by Luse Hukobyan (26th), Lynzi Arrieta (45th), Kandyce Vallejo (49th), and Kandence Salazar (51st).
With several personal records set again this week, the Steers continue to build momentum for the season. Next up, the varsity teams will travel to McKinney on Saturday to compete in the Lucas Lovejoy Invitational.
