Police Chief Chad Williams presented Lt. Gordon with a plaque and a personalized gift from the department. He also received a Certificate of Appreciation from Texas Ranger Jeff Strain on behalf of the Texas Rangers Company “E”.
Lt. Gordon began his career with the Big Spring Police Department at the age of 21. Now at 51, he is believed to be the only individual to have worked in or supervised every division of the BSPD, including roles as a jailer, dispatcher, and patrolman; he worked in street crimes and narcotics (including the West Texas Narcotics Enforcement Task Force), records, ID techs, evidence, detectives, and animal control. Furthermore, he served on the SWAT team–becoming Commander; he was the Emergency Management Coordinator, wrote grants, and served as Public Information Officer, among other duties.
Lt. Gordon is proud to have served the community in which he grew up, and when asked about retirement he told KBest, “A lot of emotions. I’m excited for what the future holds but it’s bittersweet to leave a family I’ve known for more than half my life.”
Ret. Lt. Gordon plans to take a month off before beginning training for a School Resource Officer position in Coahoma, stating, “It sounds like a good retirement job to me.”
Patrol Sergeant Amie Taft will be promoted to Gordon’s former position. Taft expressed her excitement to serve the City of Big Spring in her new role as Lieutenant and Public Information Officer.
