BIG SPRING, TX — It takes more than a storm to keep a good hotel down! The massive wind and hail storm Sunday night wreaked havoc on areas of Big Spring, particularly downtown. Hotel Settles suffered an abundance of broken windows from the 1st floor all the way up to the 15th floor. According to Asset Manager Kris Ryan, approximately 50 windows were broken during last night’s massive wind and hail storm. There was also damage caused to draperies and bedding due to flying glass.
Ryan told KBest Media that when the electricity went out, both elevators were carrying guests who were stuck between floors.
“When I say between floors, it’s only like about, maybe a foot from the seal………and get off. I had to call a technician out; we didn’t get power back until about 1:30,” said Ryan.
Many guests who were affected by high winds and broken glass made their way to the hotel’s lobby to wait out the storm, while others opted to go to other hotels for the night due to the lack of air conditioning caused by the power outage. In spite of the unexpected discomfort, Assistant General Manager Delma Reyes said the guests were very kind, very understanding and very patient with the staff.
Settles Grill and Pharmacy Bar are now open for business. Rooms are also available that aren’t facing west.
