From Big Spring PD, 04/29/24:
On the 18th of April 2024 at approximately 6:45 P.M., Big Spring Police Department officers were sent to the DK convenience store located at 1801 S. Gregg in reference to an assault victim identified as Kelleigh Smith White/Male 41 years of age. Smith informed officers that Tenor Williford White/Male 20 years of age had assaulted him with a blunt object outside of a residence in the 1600 block of S. Main. Medical personnel were called to the DK though Smith refused treatment at this time. Officers responded to the residence in which the assault had occurred and conducted a preliminary investigation and arrested Williford for an outstanding warrant for Cruelty to Animals. At approximately 11:00 P.M., officers were dispatched to Scenic Mountain Medical Center, finding Smith had responded requesting treatment. Smith was subsequently transported to UMC Lubbock for his injuries sustained. On the 19th of April 2024 Big Spring Police Department Criminal Investigations Division responded to the residence in which the assault occurred finding the suspected blunt object used in the assault, and again interviewed witnesses. Detectives then secured an arrest warrant for Williford for the Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon a Felony 2 offense. Detectives have maintained contact with family and hospital personnel and were informed on the 26th of April 2024 that Smith had succumbed to his injuries and an autopsy was scheduled for Wednesday May the 1st. Detectives then secured an arrest warrant for Williford charging him for the murder of Smith. Williford is currently being held in the Howard County Detention Center on a $500,000.00 bond.
This continues to be an ongoing investigation and no further information is available at this time.
