BIG SPRING, TX — On Friday morning a groundbreaking celebration for the new hangar location of Air Evac Lifeteam 54 in Big Spring, located at the Scenic Mountain Medical Center campus.
Currently, the Air Evac Lifeteam is stationed at the McMahon-Wrinkle Airpark, which is approximately 2.5 miles away from SMMC. Debra Wallace, Senior Program Director for AirEvac 54, told KBest News that the new location will allow them to be ready to launch within minutes.
The new location will include a helicopter pad, a living quarters area for the 24-hour flight team, and a hangar to store the helicopter.
Stacy Brown, President of SMMC, told KBest News that this is tremendous to the community and it will raise awareness for the community to know that they have a helicopter nearby to transport them to a larger facility if needed.
“Minutes and even seconds make a huge difference in the outcome of a patient’s emergency, and we’ll be able to improve the outcome of our community,” said Brown.
Construction is expected to be completed before the end of the year.
