Malinda Flenniken - KBest Media Managing Partner

Malinda Flenniken - KBest Media Managing Partner

Before producing an internationally syndicated radio show, Malinda (Ellison) Flenniken began her radio career at the age of 17 in Big Spring, TX, hired for what was then referred to as “telephone sales.” She soon became the Afternoon Drive host for the station before taking the plunge and moving to Los Angeles, CA at age 19. Malinda found her way to KGIL serving as Assistant Program Director, then Afternoon Drive announcer on the San Fernando Valley’s KMGX “Magic in the Valley.” After a few years of trying to catch glimpses of the legendary Rick Dees in and around Hollywood, Malinda was invited to the KIIS FM studios where she finally got to meet her radio hero. She was offered the opportunity to write and produce comedy bits for “Rick Dees in the Morning” which….she accepted! Her first comedy bit to hit the L.A. airwaves in the mid-'90s was a parody of Prosecutor Marcia Clark singing to O.J. Simpson in the style of Madonna’s “Take a Bow.” Her mesh with the Dees style of quality, professionalism, and comedy escalated to the internationally syndicated “Rick Dees Weekly Top 40 Countdown” where she became the Associate Producer, then the Producer, and finally Executive Producer. A decade of traveling the globe and brushing with celebrities during the Dees years was an incredible ride of memorable experiences. When her father became ill, Malinda left the Countdown and spent a year commuting between L.A. and Big Spring, TX where her family remained. When her father passed away, a gentleman in her hometown funeral home assisted her family…and won her heart. The following year, Malinda moved back to Texas where she joined “Lew Dee, Diana, and Malinda in the Morning” on Lubbock’s KLZK. The gentleman Funeral Director back in Big Spring came calling…they married, and Malinda became General Manager of her hometown radio station, KBST. She and her husband Danny Flenniken, along with partners Mike and Sheila Abusaab, now own KBest Media which includes KBST 95.7 FM, KBST AM 1490, and KBTS 94.3 FM.

Mark Richardson - Operations Manager

Mark Richardson - Operations Manager

Name: Mark Richardson
Hometown: Big Spring, TX
First job: Paperboy – Big Spring Herald
Favorite quotes: “Attitude Reflect Leadership, CAPTAIN” Remember the Titans
Pet peeves: Rudeness, long text conversations instead of calling, large group texts that include people you don’t know, loud music from cars or neighbors
Tell us about your self: I’m proud to be a Big Spring Steer graduate and a graduate of Angelo State University – a long time ago. I married my High School Sweetheart 27 years ago. We have two amazing children. Our daughter is recently married to a guy I have liked since day one. She is pursuing degrees in Education and Zoology. Our son is a recent graduate of Coahoma High School and is attending Angelo State University. He is studying Agriculture Business and shoots competitively on the “Ram Clay Target Team”. We own two great dogs; Harley and Remington. I love to spend my time in the saddle and outdoors. Our horses are Concho (my long-time buddy), Twister (my son’s horse), Scotch (my newest horse), and our semi-adopted Clydesdale, Rosie.
If you had the world’s attention for 30 seconds, what would you say?

Earn your way in life! Work hard for what you want and never quit pursuing that. It may not be the easy way but at the end of the day, you will know that you controlled your destiny. Spend every day developing your Legacy. In the end, your Legacy is what will matter. Jimmy Valvano said it best; “Don’t give up. Don’t ever give up.”

If you had to work but didn’t need the money, what would you choose to do?

Hunting and fishing guide. Maybe a dessert taste tester.

If you could become a member of any TV-sitcom family, which would it be?

Coach, Home Improvement or The Ranch.

What’s something you’ve tried, that you’ll never try again?

AVOCADOS – yuck!!!

What sound do you love?

A perfectly hit baseball off of a wooden bat.

What is the most memorable gift you’ve received?

A horse. Concho was given to me by my staff at Buffalo Trail Scout Ranch. Love that horse and that staff!

Tell us about yourself:

I never dreamed that I would actually get to be on the air in radio broadcasting. I figured I’d be an intern sometime, but to do it for a living is great. I take pride in the work that I do and enjoy the crew that I work with. When not working, I write and workout material for my stand-up because I am an aspiring comedian. I usually like to catch the Open-Mic Nights in downtown Big Spring on Thursday nights to practice my material.

If you had the world’s attention for 30 seconds, what would you say?

Check out and like "The Green Bean Comic" on Facebook.

Would you rather to never be able to express yourself accurately or always have to say the exact truth? EXACT TRUTH

What irrational fear do you have?

Mirrors - They freak me out. Sometimes, I feel like there’s another dimension that I’m looking into and the person in the mirror knows that I’m real and she’s capable of causing me harm if I look into it too the dark.

It's absolutely fantastic to step out of the box, just don't go too far from it because it's much harder to get back on track. Dream big and never let them go. I started my professional career by attending secretarial school.  I fell in love with computers and automation.  After mostly working in manufacturing, I found myself absolutely fascinated by the computers and technology at KBest Media. I first started with KBest in May 2012 as Receptionist.  With my love of puzzles and computers, I naturally moved into other areas.  I am now the Traffic Director (scheduling commercials and having nothing to do with vehicle traffic), Office Manager and Assistant to the Managing Partner. What I love most is the excitement this team of radio professionals exhibits during community events and being part of a team that loves to laugh.
If you could only speak one word today, what would you say?
“Hugs”  The word Hugs can be so many things, it can request a hug because you’re happy or sad; it can offer a hug in celebration or in sympathy.  Hugs are almost always well received and are so healing!  I’ve heard it takes 3 hugs per day to survive emotionally and 8 hugs per day to grow emotionally.
Would you rather live (permanently) in a roller coaster park or in a zoo?
Definitely a Zoo!!  I love animals … I mean: they are people too!!
Describe your life using one word.
Family!  Family, including the friends I care about, makes my world go round.

Children playing.
What is one food you would never give up?
Cake. I love the cake. My favorite is white cake with buttercream frosting!  Blue frosting is always a perk.
