BIG SPRING, TX — During Monday’s meeting of the Howard County Commissioners Court multiple people spoke to commissioners in favor of the proposed mural for the Howard County Library that would be painted by Big Spring High School Art Teacher Andrea Phinney and her art students. The item concerning the mural had been tabled by commissioners over the past two meetings so that more information could be collected about the project and how to maintain it.
The proposed general theme is literacy, knowledge, and imagination, and is expected up be painted in March during Spring Break.
According to Mavour Braswell, Director for the Howard College Library and Howard County Library, Big Spring ISD would be overall responsible for the cost and maintenance. It is expected to draw attention to the library and be an invitation for community members to explore the library.
Commissioners approved the mural contingent upon a memorandum of understanding with signatures from the Howard County Judge and the BSISD Superintendent stating that BSISD would be responsible for the maintenance of the mural. During the next meeting on Feb. 28, 2022, a presentation on the final design proposal for the mural.
