According to the preliminary investigation conducted by DPS officials, a Ford F-350 pickup was driving westbound in the eastbound lane of Interstate 20. Three Andrews charter buses were in the same area filled with band students traveling eastbound to Sweetwater for the Andrews football playoff game against Springtown.
During a press conference on the incident, DPS stated that the F-350 collided head on into the first Andrews ISD bus, causing a secondary crash with second Andrews charter bus. The first charter bus sustained extensive damage, the second bus had minimal damage, and the third bus had no damage. At this time it is unknown why the driver was traveling in the wrong direction.
The driver of the F-350 was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of the injuries he sustained due to the crash.
The first charter bus had 25 students and 3 adults. 2 students and 1 adult were air lifted to Lubbock Memorial Hospital. The 2 students are in critical but stable condition, the adult had succumbed to his injuries sustained during the crash.
11 students and 1 adult were transported to Scenic Mountain Medical Center where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Andrews ISD Charter Bus Crash on I-20 in Big Spring
BIG SPRING, TX — KBest News was able to confirm that an Andrews ISD charter bus was involved in a crash with a pickup truck on the eastbound lane of I-20 in Big Spring, near mile marker 179. The charter bus was carrying Andrews band students traveling to Sweetwater for the Andrews football playoff game against Springtown that was scheduled for 7 PM tonight.
Local law enforcement, paramedics, first responders, and area air vac teams responded to the crash site. Several people were reported to be injured and multiple people were airlifted from the scene. Big Spring ISD also responded with 3 school buses to transport students away from the wreckage to the Big Spring ISD’s ATC, located on the corner of E. 10th and Owens.
According to BSISD Superintendent Jay McWilliams, several staff members are on site with students – including school nurses and counselors. McWilliams advised that the community has shown a great deal of support for the students by bringing many cases of water and Gatorade, along with a large variety of food, including pizzas, burritos, burgers, etc. As of now, Superintendent McWilliams states that at this time, no further assistance is needed. They only waiting with students as they are getting picked up by family members.
