Dickie Wrightsil, Chandra Wrightsil-Mayfield, and Destiny Mayfield met with the Big Spring Area Community Foundation on Friday morning, 09/17/2021, to finalize paperwork on creating the Mansfield-Wrightsil Scholarship Award for Outstanding Academic and Extracurricular Achievement for Big Spring High School Students.
Dickie, Chandra, and their brother Jerald are graduates of Big Spring High School. Their family was deeply impacted by the generosity and long-time support of the Mansfield family.
Toots Mansfield was a 7-time tie-down roping world champion who was inducted into the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame, the National Cowboy Hall of Fame, and the Texas Sports Hall of Fame as its first-ever cowboy member. He, along with Mary Nell, were visible figures with their civic involvement and commitment to making Big Spring and surrounding areas a better place to live. Their commitment to excellence, as well as to the Wrightsil children, is why the Mansfield-Wrightsil Scholarship Award for Outstanding Academic and Extracurricular Achievement was created.
The Mansfields began a commitment to excellence that has now spanned more than a century. Dickie, Jerald, and Chandra are proud to take the torch and carry it forward in the form of this award.
This endowed scholarship will be awarded for the first time ever in Spring 2022.
