BIG SPRING, TX — On Monday morning, June 16, 2025, the Howard County Commissioners Court approved a 30-day extension of the Disaster Declaration for the county. According to County Judge Randy Johnson, this would allow businesses who are keeping track of hours used for restoration to continue logging those hours.
During the meeting, it was noted that the county is still assessing property damage. So far, that includes the entire roof of the jail, and all but two window seals on the west side of the county courthouse.
As of Thursday afternoon, June 12, 2025, at 4 PM, the Texas Department of Emergency Management had completed 1,100 damage assessments over the course of three days. There is no information at this time if the $52 million threshold in damage has been reached for the State of Texas to request federal assistance.
Private citizens can report damages from the storm online at:
These reports help to illustrate the scope of our county’s losses to the state government. The objective of this survey is to help state and local emergency management officials across Texas identify and gain a more complete understanding of damages that have occurred during these recent natural disaster activities and can help when state officials determine which areas may receive aid and the amount of that aid.
Reporting damages to Emergency Management is a voluntary activity and is not a substitute for reporting damage to your insurance agency, nor does it guarantee disaster relief assistance.
