BIG SPRING, TX — Memorial Day is on Monday, May 26th. This federal holiday, originally called Decoration Day, is held on the last Monday in May. According to the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs, National Cemetery Administration, it is the nation’s foremost annual day to mourn and honor its deceased service men and women.
Those in the Big Spring area looking to observe Memorial Day in a meaningful way with loved ones can take a drive through Trinity Memorial Park on Monday from 8 AM to 5 PM, to witness a breathtaking display of American flags in honor of our nation’s heroes. For decades, Trinity Memorial Park has been displaying over 100 American Flags each Memorial Day. This year will be no different. In preparation of the holiday, the local Boy Scouts will be placing miniature flags on veterans’ graves making a memorable patriotic scene.
Also on Monday, the Crossroads Young Marines will be placing miniature flags on veterans graves at Mt. Olive Cemetery at 8 AM.
Another great way to observe Memorial Day would be to visit the Big Spring Vietnam Veteran Memorial, located at Rackley & Swords (also known as 8th and Ave. D).
