BIG SPRING, TX — The 35th annual Run For The Wall event will be in the Permian Basin this weekend. This group of veteran motorcyclists ride with the mission to promote healing among ALL veterans and their families and friends, to call for an accounting of all Prisoners of War and those Missing in Action (POW/MIA), to honor the memory of those Killed in Action (KIA) from all wars, and to support our military personnel all over the world. The ride beings in California and travels to Washington D.C. with various routes for participants to follow.
The Southern Route will end the ride for today, 05/16/25, in Odessa. Tomorrow morning, they’ll travel to Midland for a Flag Raising/Wreath Laying Ceremony Permian Basin Memorial, and then travel on I-20 with the next stop in Colorado City for fuel and in Abilene for lunch. In years past, Run For The Wall would make a stop at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, but according to John McKee, a state coordinator for Central Texas, they will only be driving through Big Spring on eastbound I-20.
Run For The Wall is estimated to ride through Big Spring from 9 – 9:15 AM on Saturday morning. Howard County Sheriff Stan Parker advised that drivers should be aware that they’ll be traveling in the area and to give them plenty of room for passage and to drive slower as they come through. Drivers are also encouraged to pull onto the shoulder of the road, clearing the lane of traffic. For anyone wanting to watch the group ride by, the public can find an open parking area to watch them ride through.
