KELLER, TX — The Alchemist, a local Jiu Jitsu academy based in Big Spring, recently sent two of its students to compete in a fundraising MMA event held in Keller, Texas. The event, known as the Flo Kickboxing Semi-Contact Muay Thai Tournament, aimed to raise awareness for autism and featured over 30 competitors from across the state.
Representing The Alchemist were Naomi Renee Villa and David Rodriguez, both stepping into the MMA arena for the first time. Despite having backgrounds solely in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, the two athletes rose to the challenge of a striking-based competition.
Villa, a first-degree black belt in Jiu Jitsu, secured a victory in her second match, demonstrating both skill and adaptability.
Rodriguez, also well-versed in Jiu Jitsu, made a strong showing in his debut.
Both competitors were trained by Coach Aaron Wagner, a seasoned purple belt in Jiu Jitsu and an experienced MMA fighter.
