BIG SPRING, TX — Last month the Associated Press obtained an internal memo that revealed that the Department of Veterans Affairs is planning to cut 83,000 jobs. This federal agency provides health care for millions of veterans, manages and directly provides comprehensive services for veterans, which include health care, short- and long-term housing options, life insurance, pensions, education stipends, and assistance in jails and courts. Plus, the VA also engages in pathbreaking public health research.
On Wednesday afternoon, approximately 30 people gathered outside of the West Texas VA in Big Spring for a “Hands Off” protest. Ed Moughon, Howard County Democrat member, County Chair, and protest participant told KBest News that they had veterans, some VA employees, democrats, and progressives and people who don’t want to see the VA close. The Goal of the protest is to bring awareness to the issue and to educate the public.
Moughon said that for the People who want to save the VA and keep services designed for veterans, it’s important to speak with our local representative Jodey Arrington.
