Media Release from Big Spring Police Department
4/14/2025
On the 23rd of December 2024 the family of Mr. Steven Rodriguez filed a missing person’s report with the Big Spring Police Department. It had been found that Mr. Rodriguez had not refilled his medications from the VA hospital and had not withdrawn any money from his bank since August of 2024. The Big Spring Police Department had requested help from citizens on the whereabouts of Mr. Rodriguez through the Crimestoppers page and had received tips that were not able to be verified as accurate information. On the 17th of March 2025, the Big Spring Police Department was dispatched to the intersection of 18th and Settles due to what was believed to be human remains being located inside a single shoe. Investigators found the remains and shoe were of the same color and size that Mr. Rodriguez was last seen wearing. Although the remains had not been positively identified as Mr. Rodriguez, the Big Spring Police Department investigated as it was. For the past 4 weeks the Big Spring Police Department Criminal Investigations Division searched over 60 abandoned structures in and around the area of 18th and Settles and were unable to locate any further remains. A drone was flown just south of the area in a wooded area initially not finding anything. On the 11th of April 2025 a drone was again flown just south of 19th and Settles at which time human remains were located. Officers approached the area of the remains and following the preliminary investigation were able to positively identify them as Mr. Steven Rodriguez. It does not appear any foul play was the result of Mr. Rodriguez’s death though the remains are being sent to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s office and an Anthropologist for further investigation. There is no further information available at this time.
