HOWARD COUNTY, TX — On Thursday, March 20, 2025, a Howard County Grand Jury indicted 50 individuals, two of which were for Murder.
Ruben Drake Silva was indicted for the Jan. 5, 2025 murder of 30-year-old Dustin Aaron Gutierrez, who was shot in his vehicle outside of the KFC located in the 1700 block of S. Gregg. Gutierrez sustained a gunshot wound to the head and later died as a result of the injury. According to thee press release from BSPD at the time of the arrest, it was believed that this had been a random act of violence.
Joansy Frankie San Pedro was indicted for the murder of 29-year-old Yanela Castro which occurred on December 27, 2024. According to BSPD, Castro was found to be deceased in the roadway of the 1600 block of Young St. The initial investigation has indicated some sort of domestic disturbance had occurred just prior to the shooting. San Pedro is believed to have shot the victim inside a residence then chased the victim outside where he continued to shoot her.
Colton Hughes was indicted for Theft of Property over $300,000 on December 27, 2023. Hughes was previously indicted for the murder of his grandmother 67-year-old Leah Hughes, who was found deceased at her residence in the 1800 block of Brent Drive on December 27, 2023. According to the Big Spring Police Department, the medical examiner determined her death was a result of a gunshot wound.
Others indicted included James Edward Sanders, Jr for Abuse of a Corpse, and Tyler James Hernandez for Possession of Child Pornography.
