KBest Media is correcting an error regarding an incorrect statement cited in report, “Bus Incident addressed at Special Meeting of BSISD Board of Trustees’’ posted 3-19-25. The final sentence of the report mistakenly stated, “After further discussions, the school board entered another executive session for 40 minutes and decided to take the matter under the advice for a future meeting.”
The correct statement is, “After further discussions a board member stated, ‘I move that the Board uphold the findings and decision of the Superintendent at Level II based on the evidence presented in this hearing and deny the appeal and relief requested, and furthermore that the Superintendent investigate and research more proactive safety procedures and policy changes to increase transportation safety. We ask that these findings be presented to the Board for implementation by the beginning of the next school year.’”
KBest Media apologizes for the error and any misunderstandings in the reported story.

Original story:
During last night’s special meeting of the Big Spring ISD Board of Trustees Veronica Modisette addressed the board during public comment to speak on the bus incident that had occurred on Oct. 17, 2024. She stated that a bus driver and special ed aid failed to check the bus thoroughly, resulting in a child being left in the bus for about three hours. After a discussion, the trustees went into a closed meeting with attorneys for about 35 minutes.
Following the closed session, the board discussed an appeal made by Ben Herron, the attorney representing the family of the child. Herron initially sought $10,000 in damages but indicated that a jury trial could potentially award $100,000 and call for the termination of the bus driver and aid. Mr. Jared Russell, legal counsel for BSISD, acknowledged the mistake but argued that no financial compensation should be given since the school had already apologized. After further discussions, the school board entered another executive session for 40 minutes and decided to take the matter under the advice for a future meeting.
