BIG SPRING, TX — The 21st annual Hoops, Dreams and Goals is set for Friday, March 21st, at the Dorothy Garrett Coliseum in Big Spring. It is held in March to highlight Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month in which people with and without disabilities come together to create and form strong, diverse communities. This event is organized by West Texas Centers, the local intellectual and developmental disability authority (LIDDA) and local mental health authority (LMHA) serving people with behavioral health and intellectual and developmental disabilities in 23 rural West Texas counties.
According to Amy Vidal with WTC, the cost of the event has increased in recent years and although they still have the support of their sponsors behind them, they are also selling raffle tickets as a fundraiser for the event. Money raised from the raffle will assist in covering the cost of providing lunch for participants, staff, and volunteers along with snacks. They will also have trophies, medals, and over 1,000 t-shirts for everyone. The event will include fun items like temporary tattoos and prizes for those who may not be on the court. Plus, they’ve also arranged for charter buses to transport their consumers from farther areas.
Tickets are $10 each. 1st place is a 2-night stay at Inn of the Mountain Gods in Mescalero, NM. 2nd place will win an 85-inch tv, and 3rd place will win a Traeger Pellet Grill, and 4th place will win $500. The raffle will be drawn on March 28th at Hoops, Dream and Goals and you don’t have to be present to win. Tickets can be purchased with cash or through Venmo.
