BIG SPRING, TX — A vibrant hub of creativity and innovation may not be what you picture when you think of a library, but that’s what you’ll find at the Anthony Hunt Library’s Dream Maker’s Creation Station, located on the Howard College campus in Big Spring. This room sits in the rear west corner of the building, and houses a variety of tools to spark your imagination and bring projects to life. Whether you’re looking to explore new skills or refine existing ones, the Creation Station is an ideal environment for students and community members to experiment, learn, and innovate.
The area has a variety of machines, such as a 3D printer, a Cricut Maker, GlowForge Laser Cutter, arts and crafts, and button makers. This equipment is available to use for free, and only need to pay for the material used (filament for the 3D printer, vinyl, material for the GlowForge Laser Cutter, and button maker).
Valerie Rios, Library Information Technology Specialist at Howard College, said that a lot of people love the arts and crafts.
“We have lots of students that come in and use the crafts that we have. They do painting and bracelet-making. They seem to enjoy that a lot,” said Rios.
In addition to the Creation Station, there is also a Media Lab within the library that provides basic equipment, such as a green screen, light board, and tripod for phone or camera that can be utilized for various digital projects.
The Anthony Hunt Library is only closed on Saturdays during the school year. It is open Monday – Thursday 7:30 AM – 8 PM, on Friday it is open 8 AM to noon, and on Sunday it is open from 1 -5 PM.
