The oil and gas industry fuels the local economy but as the oil field heats up, the West Texas roads tend to get more dangerous. One local lawyer is doing his part to hold careless companies accountable as an Ector County judge awarded his client an $18.5 million judgement on February 20th.
“I’m very happy for my client,” said Ben Herron of Bearded Justice Law Firm in Big Spring, Texas. “After his accident, he didn’t know what he was going to do. He had no idea how he was going to feed his family.”
Mr. Herron’s client was traveling westbound on I-20 in Ector County when he was struck by a work truck that was driven by a drunk driver. Investigation showed that the driver had a long criminal history that would have been apparent to the company if they had done a background check.
“Instead of doing their due diligence, this company put a dangerous driver on the road and my client suffered a broken back and can never work again. I don’t have a problem with companies trying to earn a profit, but not when it is done at the expense of public safety. My children travel on these roads and I will continue to do what I can to keep them safe.”
