Re: Structure Fire
On November 21, 2024, at 2:34 a.m., the Big Spring Fire Department received an alarm for a structure fire in the city limits, specifically in the 1400 block of Park Street. When the first crew arrived, they found fire coming from the rear of a single-story residential structure. Two of the occupants in the home were transported to Scenic Mountain Medical Center by Allegiance Ambulance Service. Unfortunately, 41-year-old Daneilla Sarmiento and 37-year-old Chris Salazar succumbed to the fire. The Big Spring Fire Department had three fire trucks that responded to the fire along with the Battalion Chief and the Fire Marshal. All units were cleared from the scene by 8:00 a.m.
The cause of the fire has been determined to be accidental, caused by an electrical heating device. There were no working smoke detectors in the residence at the time of the fire.
Special thanks to Big Spring Fire Department, the Big Spring Police Department, Big Spring Identification Technicians, Allegiance Ambulance Services, Justice of the Peace Griffin, and ONCOR.
We extend our sincere condolences to the families affected by this tragedy.
