BIG SPRING, TX — The 2023 World Series trophy, also known as the Commissioner’s Trophy and won by the Texas Rangers in 2023, made its way to the Golden Chick in Big Spring while on a trophy tour across the country. Many people took the opportunity to snap a photo with the trophy, including Big Spring teen Ethan Bissonnette who had actually caught a home run ball over the summer during a Texas Rangers game!
13-year-old Bissonnette attends Runnels Classical Academy and says he first got into baseball a couple years ago while watching it with his dad. Over the summer, he attended a Texas Rangers game and was able to snag a ball by holding his glove up.
“Everything was like in slow motion whenever I caught it,” said Bissonnette. “They play fireworks whenever they hit a homer at Ranger Stadium and I didn’t hear that. It was weird, and then right after that Nathaniel Lowe hit a Homerun. So, it was just a lot of excitement,” he continued.
Bissonnette got a good amount of airtime when he caught the ball. He can be seen catching the home run ball hit by Robbie Grossman and then high-fiving fans around him. He told KBest News the next day, he attended church and was recognized by having his photo posted on the tv screens.
The ball is now in a glass case and Bissonnette says he doesn’t mind showing it to his friends when they ask. Yesterday, Bissonnette took his photo with the World Series trophy and, with gloves and supervision, got to hold the 30 lbs. trophy. It’s made of sterling silver and 30 gold plated flags, each representing one of the franchises in the North American baseball league.
Bissonnette also received a replica of the championship ring that the players received, as well as a small replica of the trophy, and a Texas Rangers jersey. These were presented to him as a gift by KBST FM 103.9, your official radio station for Texas Rangers baseball.
