MIDLAND COUNTY, TX — A Big Spring man was killed in a two-vehicle accident in Midland County last week.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, on Friday, Nov. 1, 2024, at 2:26 PM, the crash at Loop 250, mile marker 284 in Midland County. It involved a 2024 Ford F-350 with trailer, driven by Troy Alan Gilbert, 45, of Dover, OK; and a 2018 Ford F-150, driven by Steven Michael Basden, 45 years of age, of Big Spring, TX.
The preliminary information revealed that Gilbert was traveling westbound on Loop 250 near mile marker 284 when the right-side tire broke off the trailer. The tire traveled across westbound lanes into the median and over the cable barrier onto the opposite side of the roadway. Basden was traveling eastbound on Loop 250 near mile marker 284 when the tire struck his vehicle through the front windshield. Basden lost control of the vehicle, which hit the cable barrier in the median. Basden was transported to Midland Memorial Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries on 11/2/2024. This crash remains under investigation, and no further information is available at this time.
