MIDLAND COUNTY, TX – A fatal crash in Midland County on Wednesday afternoon claimed the life of two passengers, including a 10-month-old child who was not secured with a seatbelt.
According to the Texas Department of Safety, the crash occurred on Oct. 23, 2024 at 3:19 PM on FM 1788 and CR 58. It involved a 2018 Toyota Highlander and a 2019 Freightliner. According to the preliminary information, the semi-truck was traveling north on FM-1788 and the Highlander was traveling west on CR-58. The Highlander, driven by Lazaro Rafael Reina Lenus, 51, of Odessa, failed to yield the right of way at the stop sign marked intersection and was struck by the Freightliner. The collision caused the two passengers of Highlander to be ejected. Lenus, who had been wearing a seatbelt, sustained minor injuries and was transported to Midland Memorial Hospital. Both passengers of the Highlander, Doria Hernandez Archila, 37, of Odessa, TX, and a 10-month-old child, also of Odessa, TX, were pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Freightliner was not injured.
This crash remains under investigation, and no further information is available at this time.
