BIG SPRING, TX – Blowout at the Bunker is this Saturday, Oct. 19, 2024. It will be held at the Hangar 25 Air Museum, located at 1911 Apron Drive in Big Spring from 10 am to 10 pm.
Stormy Bradley, event organizer, told KBest News that the event started because there is a street racing problem in Big Spring.
“We had a lot of people going out to the airport and doing stunts and having wild adventures. Several of them kind of talked to the Airpark Director. I’m in drag racing, so we decided we would come together to host a no-prep street race event,” she continued.
Bradley advised that the event has turned out between 2,500 – 3,000 people each time. The family-friendly event has grown to include no-prep drag racing, grudge races, a car show, DYNO, a kids area, an obstacle course, and a mechanical bull arena.
Racers are charged a tech card fee, similar to a registration fee, and funds raised benefit the Hangar 25 Air Museum and the Big Spring Vietnam Memorial.
Blowout at the Bunker is free to attend, but there are fees for anyone wanting to participate. The Car Show begins at 10 AM and the entry fee is $30. The no-prep drag racing has a $200 buy-in and a 100 percent payout. This will start and end at the museum, winner takes all. For DYNO, a machine that can test a car’s horsepower, there’s a $125 entry fee. For $5 kids can have unlimited access to a bouncer, and for $20 attendees can have full access to a mechanical bull arena, a 90-foot obstacle course, and a Never Give Up Wipeout Inflatable.
