BIG SPRING, TX — Yesterday, Oct. 1, 2024, the Howard County Library celebrated the grand opening for its Family Place Library space, a welcoming community environment with resources to help families nurture their children’s development. Family Place Library was funded by the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services through a grant to the Texas State Library and Archives Commission.
Julianna Sanchez, children’s librarian for the Howard County Library, told KBest News that this is going to be a great opportunity for Howard County.
“This is going to open the door for our community to be able to have an informal area for their children’s to come and play will also be opening workshops, or parents can come in and have a relaxed atmosphere will be bringing a resource professionals for, that will be focusing on nutrition, child development, hearing and speech,” said Sanchez.
She went on to say that it’s a great resource for families and it’s a great atmosphere for the community. Plus, she thanked the Howard County Commissioners, the Friends of the Library, and the community for their support.
Judge Randy Johnson, former Superintendent for Forsan ISD, said that children, especially young children, learn through play and so the opportunities for quality interaction with each other in a supervised environment with lots of different tactile different things is great and helps their brains grow.
“This is fantastic for a community to have a place where children can come in and grow their brains,” he continued.
The Howard County Library is located at 500 S. Main in Big Spring. They are open Monday – Friday from 9 AM to 6 PM.
