BIG SPRING, TX — The Howard County Fair is next week and there will be lots of family friendly entertainment, such as the carnival, Rough Riders Youth Rodeo, live music, game show night, petting zoo, Globe of Death motorcycle stunt riding, a pet show, a car show, and a hot dog eating contest.
In addition to all of this, there will also be a BBQ Showdown sponsored by Delek. According to Brandon Sanders, Howard County Fair Board member, this BBQ cook off contest is open to the public and participating teams will have to cook 3 meats – whole chicken, pork butt, and brisket.
Entry fee for each team is $50 and there is no limit to how people can be on a team. This will come with a cooking spot for pit, one parking pass. No RVs and no campers, but canopies will be allowed. Teams will check-in on Friday evening, cook all night, and turn in meats on Saturday, Sept. 14th. After judging, all cooked meat will be donated to local first responders.
There will be 6 judges for the competition and prizes will be awarded. Grand and Reserve will win a custom belt buckle, and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place will win an engraved custom cutting board from Dazzling Decor.
As of yesterday, 11 teams have signed up, with 5 of those from the Big Spring High School BBQ team. Sanders told KBest News that other school BBQ teams are welcome to sign-up as well.
The deadline to sign-up for the BBQ Cook Off is Friday, Sept. 13th, at noon and can be done by contacting Brandon Sanders at 432-213-6993. Entry fee is $50 per team and is due at the cook’s meeting on 09/13/24.
