BIG SPRING, TX — Yesterday, community members gathered at Hotel Settles to celebrate the spirit of the Boy Scouts. Roy Worthy, of Big Spring, was awarded the 2024 Lone Star Good Scout from the Buffalo Trail Council BSA.
When asked how he felt about the award, Worthy said ”I’m very honored to receive this award. We always try to help our community and help Big Spring. We love Big Spring and we always will. My dad taught me that love and I’m teaching my son that love.”
His father Jerry Worthy had been a recipient of the same award in 2016. He told KBest News that it’s a very heartfelt thing to receive this same award.
“It’s an amazing thing and you know we’ve got his statue still in a place of honor and I’m gonna put this in right next to it.”
Worthy was a scout growing up and was a scout leader for his son. Currently, he owns Worthy Legacy Holdings and handles oilfield royalties and minerals.
The Buffalo Trail Council has been preparing young people to make moral and ethical decisions based on the scout oath and scout law for 100 years. Scouting has a rich history in West Texas due to the countless volunteers and donors that helped to build young people into the leaders of today.
