BIG SPRING – Howard College is proud to announce the appointment of John Sharp as the new Assistant Rodeo Coach. Sharp, an accomplished rodeo competitor and experienced announcer, brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the Hawks’ rodeo program.
“We are thrilled to welcome John Sharp to our coaching staff,” said Justin Jenkins, Head Rodeo Coach. “His extensive experience in rodeo and his passion for the sport make him an excellent addition to our program.”
Sharp began his college rodeo career at New Mexico Junior College before transferring to Texas Tech University. At Texas Tech, he competed under the guidance of Jerrad Hofstetter and earned both his undergraduate and master’s degrees. His deep understanding of various rodeo disciplines, combined with his competitive spirit, makes him a valuable asset to Howard College.
In addition to his competitive career, Sharp is also known for his work as an announcer at major roping events across the country. He has had the opportunity to announce at prestigious events such as the United States Team Roping Finals in Fort Worth, Texas, and the South Point Qualifiers in Las Vegas, Nevada, for Mathews Land and Cattle.
“In rodeo, success is judged not only by the results in the arena but also by the relationships we build along the way,” said Sharp. “College Rodeo was not only a time that I was able to work on my roping, it also gave me the opportunity to meet some people who will be lifelong friends.”
Sharp credits his success to the mentorship he received from some of the best in the sport and is eager to pass on those lessons to future Howard Hawks.
“I am excited to join the Howard College rodeo program and work with these talented athletes,” said Sharp. “I look forward to helping them achieve their goals and fostering a supportive and competitive environment.”
