BIG SPRING, TX – Last night was the finale for the Amazing Shopping Race, a month-long promotion organized by the Big Spring Area Chamber of Commerce that encouraged Howard County residents to shop local. 25 businesses participated in the event.
Three names were drawn as winners. Each winner received a gift basket in amounts that ranged over $1,500 in a variety of prizes.
3rd Place, valued at $1,360, was awarded to Katie Newton.
2nd Place, valued at $2,101.99, was awarded to Connie Booth.
1st Place, valued at $3,916.50, was awarded to Candice Smalling.
All winners were excited about their prizes and had even ran into businesses they had no idea were available in Howard County. One of the winners, Katie Newton, drove in from Lubbock to participate.
Newton told KBest News that she currently resides in Lubbock but she had been raised in Big Spring and still had family in the area. Since it began July 4th weekend, she and her family decided to do it.
“We were like, ‘Well, let’s just go do it. We haven’t ever done it before,’ and so had to come home a lot of weekends to try to get done and then come home. I came in yesterday evening so we could finish up today,” she said.
2nd place winner Connie Booth told KBest News she would definitely recommend others participate in the race next year.
“It was so fun! We took our time and did a few on each day that we were off. We got to hang out and explore. So many neat ideas and activities for us to do! I had a lot of fun and I recommend it to anyone to try out. We learned a lot about Big Spring! I didn’t even know [some of these] businesses were here,” said Booth.
