BIG SPRING, TX — Howard County Commissioners met for a regular meeting yesterday morning. During the meeting, action on a window cleaning contract with Fusion Equipment was tabled for another time. Commissioners accepted the budget for the Howard Central Appraisal District. They also approved the acceptance of checks closing out the 9-1-1 Board’s bank account. They also approved to pay an invoice from Carbyne, Inc. for services provided while the 9-1-1 Board was still in service. According to County Attorney Lindsay Wilkerson, the invoice amount of $194,715 would end their contract and leave no future payments to the business.
Howard County Clerk Brent Zitterkopf turned in a letter of resignation at yesterday’s meeting. He told Commissioners that his last day is planned for December 9, 2024, however his term runs through 2026. Zitterkopf will be retiring after 26 years of service to the county. This now leaves a vacancy in the position. Due to this being an election year, a special election in November will have to be held to fill the position of County Clerk; however, the County Commissioners have the authority to appoint someone to temporarily fill the position until there is a newly elected County Clerk.
