The Big Spring Police Department Criminal Investigations Division has been investigating this Felony Hit and Run for the past month. Since this time several subpoenas were served as well as a search warrant executed at Resilient Oil Field Services in Midland Texas, with the assistance of Midland County Sheriff’s Department. As a result of the investigative efforts, an Arrest Warrant was obtained for Akmal Ilyas, Male 72 years of age, for the offense of Accident Involving Serious Bodily Injury and for his failure to stop and render aid, a Felony 3 offense. On the 14th of March 2024, Mr Ilyas was arrested by the Midland Police Department for this felony warrant. Mr. Ilyas has been booked into the Midland County Jail and is awaiting arraignment. As of today, the 48-year-old victim is still in the hospital at UMC Lubbock in stable condition.
This continues to be an ongoing investigation and no further information is available at this time.

On the 13th of February 2024 at approximately 6:13 P.M., Big Spring Police Department officers were dispatched to the 3300 block of E. I-20 South Service Road due to a hit and run involving injuries. The victim is identified as a 48-year-old white male. The preliminary investigation found the victim to have been pushing a motorcycle westbound when he was struck by what is believed to be a red in color Kenworth Truck Tractor pulling a sand trailer which was also traveling westbound. The driver who struck the victim failed to stop and render aid, leaving the scene of the crash. The victim was airlifted to UMC Lubbock due to the injuries sustained and is currently in stable condition.
