BIG SPRING, TX — Walk Across Texas, a fun, team-based physical activity program will soon kick off in Howard County on Feb. 29th.
According to Casey McPherson, local County Extension Agent – Family and Community Health, the goal is to have each team walk the equivalent of the 832 miles it would take to walk from one side of Texas to the other.
Walking 832 miles is easier than it sounds when the amount is shared with up to 8 members on a team. She advised that the program is 8 weeks long. A goal of 10,000 steps per day is approximately 2 miles. A team of 8 members could reach their goal of 832 miles within the time allotted.
The official kick-off event will be at the Howard Co Library at 5 PM on Thursday, Feb. 29th. There, McPherson will explain more about the program and how to create and register a team.
