BIG SPRING, TX — The Big Spring Fire Department is hiring! According to Big Spring Fire Chief Jay Holt, the department is approximately 13 short. Earlier this month Fire Station #2 was temporarily closed due to being short staffed. Holt told KBest News that because the coverage zones overlapped every area of the city was still covered during the closure. Now the city has implemented mandatory overtime as a way to prevent further closures in the future.
Anyone interested in becoming serving the public as a firefighter and EMT will soon have an opportunity to throw their hat in the ring. A new-hire test will be held on Feb. 16, 2024.
“We will provide all the training. You don’t have to be certified or anything. We’ll hire you, we’ll put you through school, pay you while you’re going to school and make you a fireman. The requirements are you have to be at least 18 but you can’t be over 35,” said Chief Holt.
