The Texas Railroad Commission has released the numbers for oil production in Texas by county for 2023. Statewide and county crude oil and natural gas production for October 2023 came from 162,578 oil wells and 86,662 gas wells. The Permian Basin leads in oil production taking the top 4 spots. Martin County leads with 17,531,332 barrels, Midland County is second on the list with 16,976,898, Upton County takes 3rd place with 8,118,787, and Howard County comes in at number 4 with 7,564,696. Crude oil production reported by the Texas Railroad Commission is limited to oil produced from oil leases and does not include condensate, which is reported separately by the RRC.
