BIG SPRING, Texas— Yesterday, Scenic Mountain Medical Center hosted the annual Silent Witness Event inside the Medical Plaza. This event was in collaboration with the Victim Services and aimed to raise awareness of domestic violence. In the past 15 years, it has been held in different locations around Big Spring, and Scenic Mountain has been honored to host it for five years. During the ceremony, silhouettes of victims were brought together and placed on display, each with a placard that includes their name and story. Howard County Judge Randy Johnson was present and provided related statistics to domestic violence awareness.
This event was not only a powerful reminder of the devastating effects of domestic violence, but it was also an opportunity for the community to come together in support of those who have been affected by it. The silhouettes serve as a haunting reminder of those who have lost their lives to domestic violence, and their stories give a voice to those who may have been silenced.
Lynn Creswell, co-director for Victim Services, told KBest News that the event is always very special because it sheds light on a problem in Howard County, and in other cities throughout the country.
“We need to embrace the fact that domestic violence is something that is not gonna go away,” said Creswell. “We need to teach our boys. We need to teach our girls. Respect each other. You shouldn’t hit each other. You shouldn’t belittle each other. It’s just a huge problem.”
