HOWARD COUNTY, TX – Earlier this month, Howard County saw a string of days with lower temperatures and rainy weather. On the night of September 11th, it also brought 1 ¾ inches of rain and wind gusts up to 40 mph. The rain flooded a local family’s home with ankle-high water, and their septic system collapsed. This caused items in the home to become contaminated with sewer water. Once stored treasures soon became contaminated trash prepped for disposal.
Now, two weeks later, U.S. Navy Veteran Matt Weatherford, his wife Leah, and their daughter 7-year-old Ellie are doing their best to move forward even though they’ve had to move into an RV camper outside of their home.
Matt told KBest News that the family has been fortunate to have the support of the community and neighbors who have helped in small ways by offering items for their daughter or even just hot meals. They’ve been able to replace a few things but he knows it’ll be a long time before they can work towards rebuilding their home.
In addition to being a Veteran and small business owner, Matt is also a stand-up comic. He’ll be a part of the line-up for the free comedy show Saturday Night Stand-Up that will be held tomorrow night at 8 PM at Crossroads Saloon. He’ll be performing alongside a variety of comics from West Texas. Again, this is a free show, but donations will be collected to assist the Weatherford family.
