BIG SPRING, TX — On Monday, April 24, 2023, the Big Spring chapter of the Disabled American Veterans presented 12 new beachcomber bikes to veterans at the Domiciliary at the West Texas VA.
According to Mike Tarpley, Senior Vice Commander for DAV, Ch. 47, for the past several years the DAV has purchased repair parts for the VA’s Domiciliary. This year, they collected seven bikes for repair, but, with the help of local bike shop Cactus Jax Cycle Worx, they were able to order 12 new bikes at a discounted price. Cactus Jax also added no flat bike tires for free, and Texas Graphics gave DAV stickers to add on bikes for free.
Tarpley told KBest News that the beachcomber bikes were chosen because they’re real low maintenance and heavy duty.
