BIG SPRING, TX — A new outreach program called “Paws on the Patio,” organized by Big Spring Veterinary Diagnostic Hospital, made its debut in Big Spring last month at Parkview Skilled Care and Rehabilitation. This allowed the BVDH staff to take two very well behaved dogs to the facility to meet residents on the patio for some love and attention.
“We all animal lovers here, and we kinda rely on them all the time for emotional support. We just couldn’t imagine what life would be like without them. So, we started to think of those who are in nursing homes, grew up with animals, and then can’t take them with them when they are placed in the nursing home, just because of circumstances out of their control,” said Breannon James, Hospital Manager at BVDH.
She went on to say that BVDH decided to do Paws on the Patio in Big Spring because they wanted to be more involved in the community and knew that this is a program that they would appreciate if they were ever in a nursing home.
James explained that this program is something that has already been implemented in their sister hospitals in other communities and it has brought many smiles for both the dogs and nursing home residents.
