BIG SPRING, TX — This Saturday, Nov. 19, 2022, the Crossroads Housing Development Corporation will be distributing Turkey meal kits for the third year in a row. Each meal kit will come with a frozen Turkey, pre-made pumpkin pie, brown-and-serve rolls, all the fixings for sweet potato casserole and green bean casserole, Turkey gravy mix, Turkey stuffing, and cranberry sauce.
Anna Scott with CHDC told KBest News that the turkey meal kit giveaway originated in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The first year, they gave away 117 kits. In 2021 they distributed 211 kits, and this year they’ll be able to giveaway 290 kits.
According to Scott, the same Thanksgiving meal increased about $10.40 or approximately 23 percent. This led the organization to turn to wholesale and assistance from sponsors. Sponsors include Credit World, Our Daily Bread Food Pantry at Spring Creek Fellowship, and Porter’s Grocery Store.
The turkey meal kits will be distributed while supplies last at Credit World parking lot, located at 1611 S. Gregg St. in Big Spring. The entrance will be on 17th St. Distribution will begin at 9 AM sharp. Although there are 290 kits to give away, they are expected to be gone within 2 hours.
Volunteers for the event will include the Big Spring Rotary Club, Greater Big Spring Rotary Club, and Cub Scouts Pack 305.
