BIG SPRING, TX — There was a special meeting of the Big Spring Housing Authority (BSHA) scheduled for 5:30 PM at 1311 W. 4th St., formerly known as the Westside Community Center next to ABC Park.
A Building Official with the City of Big Spring had officially deemed the building to not be suitable for occupancy as of Monday, June 6, 2022. This is why BSHA Commissioners were not able to enter the building for their scheduled meeting and thus a large gathering of commissioners, members of the public, and Big Spring Police Department officers were gathered outside of the building.
Before the meeting was called to order by Chair Linda Blankenburg, an argument erupted between current BSHA Commissioner Scott Emerson and Shannon Thomason, former Mayor of Big Spring, concerning the state of the building and why the BSHA was even located in such an unsuitable building.
Ultimately, the meeting was canceled.
New Business Items on the agenda for today included discussion and possible action on:
– ratifying an appointment of Thomason as Secretary of the BSHA with parliamentarian duties
– the contract between the BSHA and the current contract Executive Director Sharon Fritz
– a public hearing called by Big Spring Mayor Bob Moore on June 13th
– a resolution to employ legal counsel to represent the BSHA and its commissioners
– a notice from State National Bank about the upcoming closure of the BSHA account
– a resolution authorizing the Chair to open a new bank account on behalf of the BSHA
