From the Big Spring Symphony Association:
The Big Spring Symphony Orchestra will soon launch its 2025-26 season entitled, A SYMPHONIC CELEBRATION, under the continued energetic and inspiring leadership of Music Director, Dr. Fagner Magrinelli Rocha. During the 44th season, they’ll present a series of concerts that will captivate audiences of all ages. All Saturday concerts will start at 5:30 PM and will be held at the Big Spring Municipal Auditorium with the exception of our very special Grand Finale, which will be held at Dorothy Garrett Colosseum located on the campus of Howard College on April 26th.
The first concert of the season will be on September 20 with a concert entitled, A Season Ignited, that will prove to be full of fire, passion, and youthful brilliance. The program opens with Mussorgsky’s thrilling “Night on Bald Mountain” – a vivid musical portrait of swirling spirits and supernatural mystery, brought to life with powerful orchestral color. Rising star Greg Faught then takes center stage in Bottesini’s Concerto No. 1 for Double Bass — a virtuosic showpiece filled with elegance, lyricism, and dazzling technique. The evening concludes with Schumann’s profound Symphony No. 4, a masterpiece of Romantic architecture and emotional depth. This powerful program promises to ignite the season and captivate the imagination. This concert is sponsored by the Big Spring Area Community Foundation.
On December 20th, we bring you Jingle All the Way! – A Community Holiday Celebration. Come share the joy of the holidays with this beloved Big Spring tradition! Jingle All the Way! is a festive musical celebration that brings together the Big Spring Symphony with talented singers from area high schools, colleges, and community choirs. Our winter concert will be Musical Tales and Treasures. This two-day musical event brings storytelling, rhythm, and imagination to the forefront. On February 20, the orchestra presents engaging educational concerts for area schools, introducing hundreds of young students to the wonder of live symphonic music. The program will focus on Prokofiev’s beloved “Peter and the Wolf”, a charming introduction to the orchestra through narrative and character. On February 21, the orchestra returns to the stage for a dynamic public performance that continues the theme of musical storytelling — and features an electrifying finale: a Concerto for Two Timpanists, showcasing the artistry, athleticism, and excitement of percussion. With Dr. Trent Shuey and Dr. Lisa Rogers as soloists, this concert is packed with energy, creativity, and surprises. Perfect for music lovers of all ages, it’s an evening of treasures that stir the imagination.
On April 25, The Big Spring Symphony Orchestra proudly presents Let Freedom Ring! – a spirited celebration of America’s 250th anniversary. “This season feels really special to me. It brings together everything I love about music — powerful storytelling, exciting soloists, community voices, and the chance to share it all with our audiences. We’re opening with Mussorgsky’s dramatic Night on Bald Mountain and a stunning young double bass soloist you won’t want to miss. From there, we celebrate the holidays, inspire young minds with educational concerts, and close with a vibrant tribute to American music and spirit featuring the band LA 45. I can’t wait to take this journey with our orchestra and the Big Spring community.”
