MIDLAND COUNTY, TX — Over the weekend a fatal crash in Midland County resulted in 2 deaths.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash occurred at 1:20 AM on Saturday, July 26th, on Interstate 20 near mile marker 129. Two vehicles were involved, a 2004 Ford F150 and a 2025 Toyota Sienna.
The preliminary information revealed that the Ford, driven by Henry Anthony Vela, male, 34 years of age, of Midland, TX, was traveling east in the inside westbound lane of IH-20 on the wrong side of the roadway. The Toyota, driven by William Randolph Smith, male, 78 years of age, of Pflugerville, TX, was traveling west in the inside westbound lane of IH-20 when his vehicle was struck by the Ford. Vela’s vehicle became engulfed in flames after impact. Both vehicles came to rest on IH-20 in the westbound lanes of travel. The drivers, both Vela and Smith, were pronounced deceased on the scene. The passenger of Vehicle 2, identified as Diana Marquez, female, 52 years of age, was transported to Midland Memorial Hospital in Midland, TX, in serious condition. This crash remains under investigation, and no additional information is available at this time.
