COAHOMA, TX — A fundraiser to offer a helping hand for a Howard County family facing an upcoming transplant surgery will happen next month.
In 2018 TJ Rueda was diagnosed with vasculitis, leading to a serious health journey, including a rare brain-eating amoeba infection. He fought back, relearning to walk, talk, and eat. In July 2023 the vasculitis returned, requiring him to begin peritoneal dialysis. This has presented its own set of challenges, including multiple blood transfusions and hospital stays. Unfortunately, peritoneal dialysis is no longer sufficient, and TJ will soon transition to home hemodialysis.
The Rueda family, of Coahoma, includes TJ, his wife Gina, and their three children, Abby, Gabby, and Tres. Donations are being accepted on behalf of the family to assist during this time to help alleviate some financial pressure.
Plus, a Coahoma Co-Ed Ragball Tournament will be held Aug. 1-2, 2025 at the Coahoma Little League Fields. This is for ages 13 and up. Cost is $250 per 10-person team and $25 for each additional player over 10 members. Money raised during the tournament will benefit the Rueda Family by helping to cover ongoing medical, travel costs, lost wages, and anticipated costs of a potential transplant. Registration can be done in advance or on site from 5-7:30 PM on August 1st. The tournament begins at 8 PM and will continue through the night.
To register in advance or to make a donation, call Tonya Baker at 432-213-6234 or Olivia Cerna at 432-213-0253.
