Big Spring, TX — On Monday night, the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Chapter 47 in Big Spring recently recognized two standout community members for their dedication to supporting local veterans.
Adrienne Green, a familiar voice from KBST radio, and Amanda Duforat, staff writer at the Big Spring Herald, were honored for their years-long volunteer efforts and ongoing advocacy work with DAV Chapter 47.
Adrienne Green – The Voice of Veteran Support
Green, best known as co-host of KBST’s morning show, has been actively involved in fundraising and promotional efforts for DAV events. From organizing donation drives to co-hosting the annual “DAV Comedy Night,” she has leveraged her platform to shine a spotlight on veterans’ causes. Her enthusiastic outreach has helped raise awareness and resources for local veterans in need.
Amanda Duforat – Champion of Veteran Stories
Amanda Duforat of The Big Spring Herald has built a reputation for telling veterans’ stories with sensitivity and depth. Whether covering DAV-funded home improvements for disabled vets, profiling local servicemembers, or amplifying the needs of older veterans, her reporting has consistently elevated community attention and support for Chapter 47’s initiatives.
Community Reactions
DAV Chapter 47 Commander, Mike Tarpley, praised the honorees:
“Adrienne and Amanda have both gone above and beyond—using their talents to advocate, volunteer, and raise crucial support for our veterans. Their efforts make a direct impact.”
Attendees at the ceremony included local veterans, community leaders, KBST and Herald colleagues, and Chapter 47 members. More than symbolic, the awards serve to reinforce the vital role local media play in rallying support and awareness for veterans.
The Power of Media & Community
The award event underscores the important synergy between veterans’ service organizations and community-based media. While the DAV Chapter continues to provide assistance—ranging from utilities and housing to transportation and benefits coordination—it is the consistent amplification by Green and Duforat that ensures these efforts reach those in need.
What Comes Next
With this recognition, DAV Chapter 47 hopes to encourage more local partnerships and media involvement. And with Green and Duforat continuing their advocacy, the chapter’s outreach and fundraising efforts are poised to grow stronger.
Big Spring is proud to celebrate two local media champions whose compassion and commitment are making a meaningful difference in veterans’ lives.
