BIG SPRING, TX — On Thursday evening, the networking event Alive After 5 was held at Scenic Mountain Medical Center, located at 1601 W. 11th Pl. in Big Spring. This is a networking event organized by the Big Spring Area Chamber of Commerce that encourages people to come together for the betterment of Howard County.
While at SMMC, the event attendees were treated to food, desserts, and drinks prepared by the Yellow Rose Cafe. Plus, they were able to tour the Clinic and Operating Room at the hospital and meet their general surgeons Dr. S. Sami Daye and Dr. Kevin Huang.
Mallik Chowdary Yenigella, CEO of Scenic Mountain Medical Center, told KBest News that it’s been approximately a year since they added a general surgeon to their team and wanted the community to get to meet them. Plus, they wanted to bring the community to the facility for a tour so that they can share with the community, the improvements made at the hospital.
Last month it was announced that SMMC had earned an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from the Leapfrog Group for the second consecutive reporting period. The Leapfrog Group is an independent national nonprofit watchdog focused on patient safety. It assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country based on over 30 measures of errors, accidents, injuries and infections as well as the systems hospitals have in place to prevent them.
Yenigella told KBest News that they are actively working to sustain that rating.
“Patients that are getting care here, we had zero surgical site infections here. They had no hospital complications or conditions,” said Yenigella.
SMMC also recently celebrated 365 days without a safety issue, meaning that there have been no patient falls with serious injury.
